Sunday Snippet #30

Where they go for a carriage ride…

If you have not read the previous Sunday Snippets, I recommend you do so first.  You can find them here.
Previously on Sunday Snippets: Graeme is smitten by the sight of Delaney and forgets his irritation at being made to wait.  He decides to sit beside her as they make their way to the theatre.

The carriage lurched forward and they rode in silence, each staring out a window.  Outside, London passed them by, the light of the gas lamps making the streets of Pall Mall glisten in the early spring rain.
Turning to face her, he saw Delaney worrying a handkerchief, crumpling the delicate linen into a tight ball, then flexing the fingers of her right hand into a fist around it.  Squeeze, release, squeeze release. Graeme reached out and placed his hand over her smaller one to still the motion and she looked up at him, her brown eyes appearing very large in the dim light coming through the windows.
“Thank you for joining me,” he said, intertwining their fingers before raising her hand to his lips, pressing a kiss to her fingers.
“I didn’t feel as if I had a choice, Your Grace,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She pulled her hand from his and set it demurely in her lap.

Now, Graeme is trying so hard to apologise to her – in action if not words – but it doesn’t look like Delaney is too forgiving, does it?  Her stubbornness is going make for an interesting evening, wouldn’t you say?
It’s been a whirlwind week here.  Fave Niece and Fave Nephie came to visit and we have been playing and enjoying the winter sunshine here in California before they head back to snowy New York.  Nephie even left some orange crayon streaks on my keyboard, the little vandal.  :)  I did not blog at all like I had planned, and got no actual writing done for my WIP.  However, I figured that would be the case and wrote like mad the weeks prior.  One thing I did accomplish was making my very first Regency dish and that blog post should be up sometime this week.
As always, comments and questions are more than welcome.  And for more great stories by great writers, don’t forget to hop on over to the Weekend Writing Warriors or Snippet Sunday FB group.
Happy reading and I’ll see you all next week!
