Sunday Snippet #42

Where she meets someone new…

If you have not read the previous Sunday a Snippets, I recommend doing so first. You can find them here.
Previously on Sunday Snippets: Delaney is rushed from the theatre box by the women, leaving the men to speculate where they have gone off to.

“Come along now, we haven’t much time.”
Delaney was caught up in a force of nature by the name of Miss Prudence Hewlett and ushered quickly from the box.
“Where are we going?” she asked looking back towards where she left her husband before losing sight around a corner.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got just the thing for you,” she said, tugging Delaney along by the wrist, her bronze curls bouncing as they dodged footmen and theatre goers alike. They came to a door at the end of the corridor, and opening it with a flourish, she tugged Delaney inside while summarily shooing everyone else out, including the maid.
“Miss Hewlett, I don’t really think – ”
“None of that,” she scolded with a laugh and began to remove her gloves. “You must call me Prudence, everyone else does.” She stepped back, arms crossed over her chest, and took in Delaney’s appearance; her assessing gaze taking in everything from head to toe. “Now, what are we to do with you?”

Well, this is interesting. Who has absconded with our duchess and what is she up to?  Nothing nefarious, I assure you. Oh, she is a fun one, Miss Prudence Hewlett. Inspired by a coworker and her adventures, we’ll be seeing a bit of her every now and again. Besides, Delaney really could use a friend, and someone as cheerful and bubbly as Prudence is right up her alley!
If you were on social media this past Friday you would have seen the trends #WhyIReadHistoticals and #WhyIWriteHistoricals. Authors, bloggers and readers kept posting the many things to love about historical romance. Some of them were too funny! I found myself laughing on many an occasion. One of my favourites was “Because I can find out what’s under a kilt and call it research.” Yes, please! I did create some of my own, you can find them all on my Twitter page. Here are some of them.

If you are a fan of historicals, what was it that draws you in you reading or writing them? Leave your answer in the comments below.
As always, comments are more than welcome and for more wonderful snippets by wonderful writers, check out the Weekend Writing Warriors blog and the Snippet Sunday facebook page.
Happy reading and I’ll see you next week!
