Where she makes a friend…
Previously on Sunday Snippets: Overwhelmed by the events of the evening, Delaney bursts into tears.

“Oh, please don’t cry, Your Grace!” Miss Hewlett began fluttering her hands and patting her skirt and sleeves before tugging a handkerchief from her reticule. “I’m a sympathetic crier, see, and if you start crying, then I will start crying and then what will we be, but two blubbering red faced ladies not fit to be seen in public?”
She stopped only long enough to take a breath before continuing, this time pacing the small chamber. “Oh, what will His Grace say when we return, red-faced and puffy, with only a single handkerchief to be had between us? You are in my company for just a few moments and here I’ve reduced you to tears!
“Come,” she said placing an arm around Delaney’s shoulders, directing her to sit in one of the chairs along the wall before sitting down herself and shoving the now wrinkled handkerchief into Delaney’s hand.
“I feel like such a goose,” Delaney mumbled with a self-deprecating laugh as she dabbed at her eyes, forcing herself back under control.
“Think nothing of it, I do it all the time – happy, sad, it doesn’t matter,” she said, giving Delaney’s shoulder a friendly squeeze. “Most of the time I’m not even upset, I can’t seem to help myself, really.” She gave a little smile that faded into a puzzled frown, as if struck by this revelation.

Oh what a pair!
Chatty, friendly Prudence and serious, headstrong Delaney. But, you know how opposites attract, and these two are as opposite as they come. This looks like the start of a beautiful friendship. :)
Not much to say this week. I’ve been busy rewriting the two thirds of the story I previously cut out. It’s a much more solid piece now.
Not much writing going on tomorrow as it is the day of the Los Angeles Film Festival and the premier of the romance documentary Love Between the Covers. It’ll be good to get out for a bit and socialise and step away from the computer for a bit. Even solitary writers need company every once in a while.
As usual, comments are more than welcome. For more great snippets by great writers, be sure to stop by the Weekend Writing Warriors blog and Snippet Sunday facebook page.
Happy reading and I’ll see you next week!
