Oh, hi! How are you?
I know, I know, it’s been forever since I’ve shared anything with anyone. I feel like I only get on here once or twice a year, or when I have a book to promote. Obviously, the latter hasn’t happened in quite a while. You can call it burn out, or overwhelm, or sheer exhaustion, but that’s what has settled over me for the past few months. It takes everything I have to get out of bed, much less set pen to paper (or fingers on keyboard, if you will).

I haven’t been much on social media lately, either. Meta’s algorithm has me hidden on Facebook and Instagram. It’s hard for a small-time creator and creative to compete in the pay-to-play world of social media, especially with the rise in the icky Ai slop. I’m telling you… show me ALL your self-made canvas graphics over that Ai crap.
In case you hadn’t figured out I am anti-AI and will never ever use it in my writing or graphics. What you see is made totally by me and my minimal canvas skills. 😆
Then, whenever I get the fire under me to start writing, or fiddling around on social media, I want to do ALL THE THINGS at once and end up doing nothing. 😑
Which is where I’ve been for the past six months. I feel like I’ve forgotten how to write. I forgot the plot of my stories (yes, plural), I forgot where I was inside the characters’ heads, I forgot how to connect with readers. I forgot why I love writing.
So I’m going to take it slow for a while and get back into the swing of things, focussing on writing and actually finishing a story, dammit!
In order to do that, I joined a critique group at my local library. They meet once a month and writers submit around 2200 words for critique. I didn’t submit this month since it was my first visit, but now I have an actual external deadline to work towards, I have no choice but to sit down and write.
And wouldn’t you know it, I already have a piece in mind that will be a perfect fit to introduce my writing to the group. The trick now is to, as my screenwriting teacher taught me years ago, get it out of my head and onto the page.
Until the next update,
Christina 😘
