Autumn Smiles

Today is the first full day of autumn and the start of my favorite time of year!  There is something so refreshing about the cooler temperatures after the heat of summer.
unnamed (1)The leaves change colors, Halloween is right around the corner and Thanksgiving not too far behind – time to break out the turkey hat!
Here in Southern California we have an abundance of palm trees that stay green year ’round.  With the temperature staying warm late into the season, the first inkling of the change in seasons is signified with pumpkins.  I love pumpkins.  I love pumpkin foods, pumpkins on the doorstep, carving pumpkins…I love them all!  The great thing about this time of year is that they turn up everywhere from grocery stores, pop-up pumpkin patches and pumpkin spice flavored everything!  To this Southern California girl, nothing says autumn like the first pumpkins showing up in the local grocery store.
pumpkins2This year, I am lucky enough to go a-visiting with Dearest Sister and her family in New York.  As of now the weather forecast puts the majority of my time there in the low to mid 60’s .  This means I’ll be able to break out the sweaters and Ugg boots, rake leaves into piles and teach Fave Nephie how to jump in the pile and make a mess!  Fave Niece will be a little too young for those hijinks, but I’m sure we’ll be able to place her in a lovely pile of leaves and visit a pumpkin patch.
Until the end of the season, this is my one chance to enjoy the cool autumn temps and change of seasons.  It just makes me want to bundle up in warm sweaters, drink tea and read a good book with the soothing tones of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong playing softly in the background.
