Deadlines Looming…
Hello, all! It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything other than my Sunday Snippets and there’s a good reason for that. September 30th is fast approaching and with it comes the deadline for the OCC-RWA Book In A Year (BIAY). Book in a year is something that both my Southern California chapters participate in. There is no competition between members, it’s not really a contest, but more of a kick in the pants to encourage us to finish the book. But we do get a lovely certificate at the Birthday Bash to show we completed the task.
The rule is simple (yes, there is only one rule): to finish a rough draft of a novel (40,000 words or more) between October 1st and September 30th of the following year. If you are published, it must be an uncontracted work. It doesn’t have to be perfect, or publication worthy – yet – it just needs to be finished.
And while we’re on the topics of deadlines, once I complete my BIAY, I’ll have six months to polish, edit and perfect it in order to pitch it at the California Dreamin’ Writers Conference in March. Hopefully it won’t take that long and I can work on the dreaded synopsis for the other books in the series. I already have requested a pitch appointment and just need to prepare and perfect it before then.
So that’s it.
I am on deadline to finish my book, so you may not see much of me for at least the next month except for the Sunday Snippets since they are directly related to my BIAY project, The Seduction of the Duke, which is the first novel in my Reluctant Lords series.
Now it’s your turn. Do you have any deadlines looming in the future?
