It’s Day Two of the Writer Friends Challenge, and that means it’s Read Across America Day! Okay, Let’s be real, every day is read across America day. 😆
Held every March 2nd, on the birthday of Dr Seuss, Read Across America Day was founded by the National Education Association to foster a lifelong love of reading among people of all ages, and the best way to make a lifelong reader is to start young.
I can’t remember the first book that was read to me, or the first book I read on my own. But I don’t ever remember a time when I was without a book. Family parties, holidays, vacations. I would drive Mom crazy when we were visiting Dad in San Francisco and I’d be walking down the street with a book in front of my face, somehow always managing to duck and dodge tree branches and parking signs. My summer camp duffle bag weighed a ton because half of it was filled with books. At least now I have the luxury of ebooks and a digital library, but no matter what, I still have at least one book on me at all times.
It’s like the old American Express commercial…don’t leave home without it.
