Sunday Snippet #13

Where he gets schooled on wives…

If you have not read the previous Sunday Snippets, I recommend doing so first.  You can find them here.
Previously on Sunday Snippets:
When Graeme is caught not knowing what his wife’s favorite jewel is, Stryker quickly sets him straight on what is appropriate jewelry for a wife.

Stryker grinned in a smug sort of way.
“She is fond of those pearls,” Graeme mused, shrugging.  “Perhaps I should get her ear bobs to match.”
“No,” Stryker said, shaking his head, “that will never do, she deserves a gift worthy of a wife.”
Raising his brows, Graeme gave his friend a incredulous look.  “You, inveterate bachelor that you are, what would you know of a wife-worthy gift?”
“I say, it can’t be much different from what you’d gift a mistress, eh?  Just have to make sure it’s something more.”  At his puzzled look, Stryker explains, “A daughter making a debut gets pearls, and ear bobs are strictly for mistresses, unless you are parting ways.”

*****
I love this entire scene for so many reasons.  Most especially for the fact that Stryker seems like such a worldly fellow.  With his confident attitude, Graeme takes him at his word.  But men are from Mars and all that, you can only bet this doesn’t turn out to be all jewels and roses like they think it will…
