Sunday Snippet #15

Where he is given an idea…

If you have not read the previous Sunday Snippets, I recommend doing so first.  You can find them here.
Previously on Sunday Snippets:
With the briefest of suggestions, an image burns itself in Graeme’s mind of his wife wearing jewels.

“I see you take my meaning,” he [Stryker] said with a knowing smile.
“Indeed,” Graeme cleared his throat, tugging at his suddenly too-tight cravat and wishing he could loosen his suddenly too-tight trousers.  They crossed onto St. James’s street and he surreptitiously pulled his greatcoat closer around himself in an effort to hide his body’s reaction to the image in his mind.  “How would you do it?”
“Were she my wife” – Graeme let out a snort of amusement – “I would take her somewhere she can be seen, Vauxhall or the opera or some such nonsense.  Jewels are well and good, but what a woman truly wants is to show off her newest acquisition to the rest of the ladies of the ton.”  Stryker tipped his hat in greeting to several gentlemen they passed along the street.  “And you, Your Grace, are an acquisition to put all others to shame.”

Ever have one of those friends who is so confident and sure of himself?  Someone who speaks with such conviction that you go with their ideas because they sound so authoritative?  Yeah.  Graeme has one of those in Stryker.
I’m sure you can see how well – or not well – this will turn out for the both of them.  Just wait until Delaney finds out what they are up to!  I mean, Stryker means well, you know?  He doesn’t mean to lead his friend into trouble with his wife, but it is always the best intentions that go awry.  Somehow, on a subconscious level, I think Graeme knows this as well.

Happy reading and I’ll see you next week.
