Sunday Snippet #59

Where he informs his wife…

If you have not read the previous Sunday Snippets, I recommend doing so first. You can find them here.
Previously on Sunday Snippets: Graeme, leaving the warmth of his bed – and his wife – is confronted in the upper corridor by his aunt who mistakes Delaney for a woman of loose morals.

~oOo~

Ignoring the sputtering protests of his aunt, Graeme turned and grabbed Delaney above her elbow, forcibly dragging her back inside his apartments. Releasing her arm, he strode over to the fire place, adding wood and poking the fire back to life before ringing the bell pull for Bryant.
“What do you think you are doing, wandering the hallways wearing nothing but a blanket?” Struggling to keep his voice calm, he turned to see her standing where he had let her go just inside the door. She was rubbing her arm over where he had grasped her whilst dragging her inside. He felt the pang of guilt at handling her so roughly, only now recalling that was where the ruffian had bruised her during her ordeal in the alley.
“I was not wandering, Your Grace, but coming to see what had dragged you from bed. Who was that woman and why is she in the house?”
“That woman” – he pointed towards the doorway they just entered through – “is my aunt, the one you have replaced as Duchess of Claremont. And it appears she has taken you into a disliking.”

~oOo~

It is said first impressions are everything. Somehow, I don’t think that is the first impression Delaney wanted to make with the duchess. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out!
Apparently I goofed last week and posted twelve sentences (though I still only see ten when I count them!). If you missed last week’s post before it was removed, you can read it here.
As always, feedback and comments are welcome. For more great snippets by great writers, be sure to swing by the WeWriWa blog and Snippet Sunday Facebook page.
Happy reading and I’ll see you next week!
