What I've Been Up To

It’s been a rough go lately. I bit off a little bit more than I could chew, and between taking additional classes for my degree and still working the Day Job, I had to drop out of the Love for Maui project.

It’s not a decision I took lightly. Between the my workload & school schedule, and taking care of the home and yard by myself, I could not get the story written in that short amount of time and have it up to my publishable standards. I don’t want to put out an inferior product, even if it’s only one in a volume of multiple stories. I want my stories to be a representative of me and my standards, and if I can’t produce a story up to those standards, I won’t release it.Period.

So what does this mean going forward?

I will take this as a learning experience. I’m a slow writer. I just am. I edit as I go, which slows me down even more. That’s okay. I know this about how I write, and I am A-OK with it. Now I know that even when under pressure, I can’t whip up a story and have it ready to publish on such short notice. I will have to take that into consideration for any last minute calls for stories.

I’m taking this as the opportunity to move forward and be prepared for a situation like this in the future. The plan now is to spend some time between big projects and write a couple of novellas and short story drafts that I can have ready to go.

I know, I know! I don’t need any more writing projects on my plate before I get my Reluctant Lords out, but here’s the thing. I’ve noticed a theme to my anthology submissions. If I stick with that theme and incorporate it into the shorts, then it will be easier to come up with story ideas and write them out. Since most anthology submissions are under 12,000 words, if I have two to three drafts written out, I can edit them as needed to fit the requirements and submit them on short notice. I think it’s a doable solution.

I’m giving myself a few days to gather some thoughts and do some prep work so I can start on November first.

Why November first? Come back next week to find out!

I know it’s not yet Halloween, but now is the time to start stocking up on holiday romances! My friend Sofia Aves has a new Christmas story out TODAY! and I got my copy. I can’t wait to open it up. It sounds like so much fun. Check it out below!

He’s an Aussie country boy turned groomsman lost in New York City for a high society wedding.

She can’t find her Christmas baubles with both hands.

Nisha and Ford collide in a tangle of tinsel and gingerbread lattes when he convinces the independent and totally disorganised tour guide to be his date for the wedding instead of his herd of disgruntled alpacas. Determined to make the farm boy love his not-so-tree change, Nisha takes his fish-out-of water cowboy approach to the season and shows him what a real Christmas in NYC is like.

The crux?

She might have given him a New York Slice of her heart in the process. Now she has to work out how to tell her Australian rough ‘n’ tough cowboy how she feels…before he heads home across oceans.
