What I’m reading this week

This week I am reading Sarah MacLean’s newest, The Rogue Not Taken. It is book #1 in her new Scandal and Scoundrel series.

Why I chose this book

I chose this particular book since it is the first in the new series. Coincidentally the next title in the series comes out in six days. Okay, not so coincidentally, I planned to binge read the books this way.  And yes, I’m counting the days now.  Don’t judge… ;)

About the book….don’t worry, there are NO spoilers!

When Sophie Talbot defends her sister, she unwittingly commits a social faux pas against a very powerful man. Finding herself being given the cut by Society, she decides then and there to leave London. When an urgent message forces him to return home, the roguish Marquess of Eversley was not expecting to be stuck travelling with one of London’s most infamous daughters. When things go spectacularly wrong for both Sophie and King, they find themselves coming face to face with their pasts and realizing that things aren’t always as they appear.

What am I enjoying about it so far?

This is a classic enemies to lovers story, and in the hands of a wordsmith like Sarah MacLean, it becomes something else entirely; something almost alive. What makes her stories stand apart is her ability to let the reader get deep into the head of the characters. While King and Sophie do an excellent job of pretending to hate each other, there is no doubt in the reader’s mind how they feel about each other. The constant internal battle to fight the attraction between them is almost as entertaining as the rest of the story.

Is this an author I’ve read before?

Sarah MacLean has been on my auto-buy list since I first read Nine Rules to Break When Romancing A Rake. Callie and Gabriel are my litmus test to all other romance couples. :)

What makes me keep coming back for more?

Sarah MacLean draws you in with her story, hooks you with the twist, and reels you in with her dialogue. You’re caught. There is no avoiding it now! I dare anyone to read one of her books and not be so drawn into them that you binge read all the rest. :)
I can hardly wait for A Scot in the Dark to come out next week!
